Ward 4 incumbent local councillor "I believe I can make a positive contribution in a pragmatic, realistic kind of way," said Brown, the marâ€" ried father of two. "For me to leave now would be to leave unfinished business." By HOWARD MOZEL Oakville Beaver Staff When Ward 4 local councillor Mark Brown first considered runâ€" ning for office, he didn‘t know for sure whether he could make a sigâ€" nificant contribution or would even like the job. Three years after his election the answer to both quesâ€" tions is an unqualified yes. One proposal he would like to see through is the consolidation of the region‘s four municipal fire disâ€" patch systems. While this will reap concrete economic benefits (less dispatchers, hardware etc.) the sharâ€" ing of information between departâ€" ments will likely lead to streamlinâ€" ing in other areas, said Brown. Taken one step further, he explains that the exercise illustrates the benefits of creating separate bodies â€" like the Hydro Commission and Oakville Harbors Development Authority â€" that could provide a viable alternative to regional govâ€" ernment. Brown is also looking forward to fleshing out the Focus Oakville iniâ€" tiative (designed to improve service by implementing the innovative ideas of Town staff and the public) and the continued planning of West Oak Trails. He will also maintain his commitment to police and do what he can as a local councillor to keep the town safe. Brown â€" who has been a resident of Oakville for 14 years, seven in Glen Abbey â€" first became involved with the Town as chair of the Transit Advisory Committee. He was also a director with the Glen Abbey Residents Association and its president for two terms. He has also been a part of the Cub and Boy Scouts, St. John‘s Ambulance and was an officer with the Armed Forces Reserve for eight years. The following are the Oakville school and parent volunteers: Ecole Steâ€"Marie â€" Danielle Dion; Holy Family â€" Margaret Chan; Our Lady of Peace â€" Janice Lee; St. Ann â€" Vicky Yurichuk; St. Bernadette â€" Maggie Natale; St. Dominic â€" Penny Chiaravalle; St. Ignatius of Loyols Secondary School â€" Joyce Roynon; St. James â€" Pauline Lewis; St. John â€" Sue Leith; St. Joseph â€" Anne Kosterman; St. Luke â€" Toni Zeni; St. Marguerite d‘ Youville â€" Nancy Mucha; St. Matthew â€" Doreen Juurlink; St. Michael â€" Julie Philpott; St. Thomas Aquinas Secondary School â€" Colette Wylie; St. Vincent â€" Anne Coppinger. "It is the constant support and the collaboration of parents," said Director of Education, Fred Sweeney, "that enables our system to deliver the best experience of Catholic education to the communities we serve." "I‘m not one to sit back and let people do things to me. I get out and make things happen," said Brown, who works for the Canadian software company, Switchview Inc. He believes the Town is a wellâ€" run entity filled with a successful entrepreneurial spirit. Expenses are tlghtly controlled and â€" if the province would leave municipalities alone â€" could exist well within its means with little trouble. The downloading of expenditures is a reality, however, and Brown says the Town has been forced to make serious, though not critical, cuts to As part of its 25th Anniversary Celebrations and the special recogniâ€" tion of the achievements of its stuâ€" dents and staff, the Halton Roman Catholic School Board has paid tribâ€" ute to Parent Volunteers at the Oct. 25th Regular Meeting of the Board. Each school nominated a parent volâ€" unteer who has made significant conâ€" tributions to the development and spiritual growth of their school comâ€" munity during 1994 â€" the Board‘s 25th Anniversary.
