It was around 12:50 a.m. when officers responded to assist the Halton Regional Ambulance (EMS) with a drunken man lying on Lancaster Drive. Upon arrival, they found the man who was intoxicated, but did not require medical attention -- being checked by paramedics. The man initially refused to identify himself and eventually provided a false name. When an officer arrested the man for public intoxication and failing to identify himself, he became increasingly difficult and police attempt- ed to talk the man into leaving the ambulance without success. When the officers tried carrying the man from the ambulance, police say the man punched at one of them, striking him near the groin. The man continued to resist and again tried to strike at the officer, report the police A second ambulance appeared on-scene and the paramedics came to the assistance of the officers. The man was controlled and then taken to the Oakville station.
