While the Terry Fox Run does not take place until the fall, companies and organizations are encouraged to participate throughout the year in raising money to support the Terry Fox Foundation. While new to Oakville this year, the Corporate Challenge has been a part of the Terry Fox Run for many years. Last year, the participation of Corporate Challenge Teams alone raised over $1.6 million across Canada a truly amazing achievement. This year they are looking forward to continuing Terry's vision of raising awareness of and funds for cancer research through the involvement of Corporate Challenge Teams. "This is an exciting addition to our already successful Terry Fox Run here in Oakville," said Ralph Robinson, Chair of the Terry Fox Run. "We are fortunate to have a committee member this year, Keri Schoonderwoerd, who will look after our Corporate Challenge and get it off the ground." To get involved in the Terry Fox Run Corporate Challenge, contact Keri Schoonderwoerd at 905-469-0828 or e-mail her at keri.schoonderwoerd058@sympatico.ca) and follow these simple steps: Register your team online at www.terryfoxrun.org. Contact existing team members and recruit new team members get them excited about this year's Run. Distribute pledge forms and advise your team members to most of all have fun. In addition to participating in the 2006 Terry Fox Run on Sunday, Sept. 17, there are many ways in which teams can participate. Barbecues, car washes, silent auctions, craft sales and internal contests are just some of many events held in the past. The 26th annual Terry Fox Run will be held at Abbey Park Secondary School, 1455 Glen Abbey Gate, next to the Glen Abbey Recreation Centre starting at 10 am. The Run is a noncompetitive event where people get together as individuals, families and groups to raise money in Terry's name. It is a day of celebrating Terry's legacy and helping to keep his dream of a cure for cancer alive. For more information on the Terry Fox Run, contact Ralph Robinson at 905-827-7659.
