34 - The Oakville Beaver, Friday June 9, 2006 Photos out of Africa By Catherine O'Hara SPECIAL TO THE BEAVER Linda Goodrow, traveler and art director, has tamed the wilds of Africa, bringing her experience to the public's eyes at Bronte's Sovereign House this weekend. Last September, Goodrow traveled to Kenya and Tanzania with a friend, taking part in what she calls "the dream of a lifetime." During her two-and-a-half week getaway, Goodrow went on a safari through the very dusty, bumpy roads of Africa. Wanting to capture as much as possible of her trip, she found herself taking over 1,100 photographs. Upon her return, Goodrow organized a small photo album to share her experience with friends and family. "I made a little book and people have been interested in purchasing it," said Goodrow. With the overwhelming positive response she has received from her photographs, Goodrow decided she would not only share her beautiful photos with relatives, but to the Oakville community by holding a photo exhibition. "(Photography is) definitely a hobby, an interest of mine, but being an art director by trade, I think that my photographs, because I work with artists, I have a slightly different eye and perspective of things," she said passionately. The greater part of HAVE ARRIVED! Goodrow's photographs are of animals. "Some people think `I can go to the zoo or the African Lion Safari to see the animals up close,'" she said, "but I wanted to share the experience of what Africa was like, being in such close proximity and seeing the animals in their own environment. " Goodrow said as part of her African experience she came across animals hunting, birthing, and even some being protective of their young. "It was interesting to see nature like that," she added. Scheduling to return to Africa in the fall of 2007, Goodrow is taking a slightly different approach to organizing her upcoming trip. "One of the things I've realized through doing this is that a lot of women are interested in going to Africa, but their husbands don't want to go," she said. Goodrow is hoping to put a group of women together and relive and make other women's "dream-of-a-life-time" come true.
