Poetry Café set for June 18 The Poetry Café will host Mike Barnes on Sunday, June 18. The cafe takes place from 2-4 p.m. in the auditorium of the Oakville Central Library at 120 Navy St. Barnes grew up in Hamilton and has worked as a tutor, fishing guide, steelworker, hospital porter, dishwasher, art gallery attendant, and teacher. Barnes has published well over 100 poems and 25 stories in magazines. A Thaw Foretold is his sixth book. His first collection of poetry was Calm Jazz Sea, and he has published two collections of stories: Aquarium and Contrary Angel. He has also published two novels: The Syllabus and Catalogue Raisonné. The Regional Municipality of Halton NOTICE OF PUBLIC INFORMATION CENTRE #2 New North Oakville Transportation Corridor and Crossing of the Sixteen Mile Creek, Town of Oakville Class Environmental Assessment Study The Regional Municipality of Halton is carrying out a Class Environmental Assessment for transportation improvements in North Oakville, particularly in the vicinity of Burnhamthorpe Road (Regional Road 27) to satisfy east-west travel demands in the Town of Oakville (refer to study area map shown below). The need to satisfy east-west capacity requirements has been identified in studies such as the Halton Transportation Master Plan (2004). This study is being conducted in compliance with Schedule C of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (June 2000), which is approved under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act. The first Public Information Centre was held on June 9, 2005. Thereafter, the preferred alternative solution was confirmed and route alternatives were investigated taking into consideration the problem being addressed, alternative solutions, environmental effects, and comments that were received from the Town of Oakville, regulatory agencies and the public. A second Public Information Centre has been arranged to review the analysis and evaluation of route alternatives as well as alternative crossings of the Sixteen Mile Creek including the identification of the preliminary preferred alternative for public comments.
