The task at hand: to frame a sixfoot by seven-foot Upper Canada map circa 1862. Many challenges have risen from this meticulous undertaking. "The size is very large," said DeCarli, "and the map has to be 100 per cent reversible," meaning that it can be removed from the frame without causing damage. DeCarli has come up with several solutions to ensure the safekeeping of this map, one being a UV resistant acrylic glazing, which will replace the conventional glass of the frame. This UV resistant acrylic glazing is much lighter than glass and, according to DeCarli, has the ability to withstand "bangs" without shattering. It took DeCarli nearly two months to locate a manufacturer that could provide him with such a large piece of UV resistant acrylic glaze. The product had to be specially ordered from a manufacturer in the United States.
