Keynote speakers will be Bruce Poon Tip, CEO of GAP Adventures and marketing guru, speaker and writer George Torok. Fifteen years ago, Poon Tip withdrew every last penny in his bank account to open his own travel company. Today, GAP Adventures has become a market leader offering small group experiences, with a focus on culture, nature and active travel around the world to more than 40,000 travelers a year. Honoured with Canada's Entrepreneur of the Year and Canada's 100 Leaders of Tomorrow and one of Canada's top 40 Canadians Under 40, Poon Tip is just one of the speakers presenting at the Excellence in Entrepreneurship Conference to be held on Sept. 21. Poon Tip, whose company has most recently been recognized as one of Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies, as well as Canada's Top 100 Employers and Top 10 Employers for Young People will be the afternoon keynote speaker. Torok, co-author of The Secrets of Power Marketing will be the luncheon keynote on Power Marketing and tickets are available to attend the luncheon only. Hosted by SOHO Business Report, Canada's national magazine for small business owners and Company of Women, an organization that supports, connects and promotes women in business, this all-day event will be held at the Oakville Conference and Banquet Centre and is aimed at small business owners, both men and women. Launching the day is Patricia Moser-Stern, President of i3 Advantage inc. Moser-Stern negotiates million dollar agreements with and for some the largest corporations in North America. In her presentation, The Accidental Entrepreneur, she will be sharing her story. Broadening your horizons and taking your business to the next level will be the topic covered by a panel which includes Judy Bradt, CEO of Summit Insight and a former trade commissioner, Paula Jubinville, co-author of Raising Your Business: A Canadian Bruce Poon Tip Woman's Guide to Entrepreneurship and Terri Smith, Principal of AAT School who will be sharing her experiences in managing rapid growth. The panel will moderated by Betty Wood, former National Manager for Women's Markets at RBC Financial Group. Experts on all aspects of small business management will answer questions and share their expertise with conference participants. Closing the conference, will be Chad Thiessen, Publisher of SOHO Business Report, who will be talking about how to use the media to succeed. An evening networking session will follow the conference, enabling participants to connect further. There is an early-bird special of $95 plus GST for those who register before Aug. 15, and after that date, the fee for the conference will be $125 plus GST. The Centre is a registered charitable organization, that has provided programs and services for families since 1980. Our services are designed to support all families in their parenting role. Darrell Fox set to visit Oakville for seventh time Darrell Fox, younger brother of the late Terry Fox and national director of the Terry Fox Foundation, is about to make his seventh consecutive annual visit to Oakville. For the past six years he's spoken at the fundraising Terry Fox Barbecue hosted by ScotiaMcLeod that has become the unofficial kickoff to promote Oakville's annual Terry Fox Run. This year's event will be held on Thursday Aug. 17 starting at noon at ScotiaMcLeod's office at 700 Kerr St. There will also be live entertainment, a silent auction and raffle prizes. Meal tickets cost $15 each, with proceeds going to the Terry Fox Foundation. If planning to attend, RSVP by Aug. 12 to 905-849-3418 and leave a voicemail message. Grey Cup party at Boston Pizza Boston Pizza Oakville hosts its 2nd annual Grey Cup Patio Party this Thursday from 5 to 10 p.m. Grey Cup fans can look forward to taking pictures with the coveted trophy, wining great prizes, sampling menu items and bidding for great auction prizes. This year all the funds raised from the silent auction will go towards Princess Margaret Hospital's Weekend to End Breast Cancer.
