www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday September 2, 2006 - 7 FutureForce Summit Sept. 27 Who will be in the work force in 2010 and beyond? FutureForce Halton will present the first-ever FutureForce Summit, a daylong conference addressing an issue that could have a profound effect on the Halton economy: workforce shortages. Building on data collected from community consultation sessions held this past spring, the FutureForce Summit is on Sept. 27, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Burlington Convention Centre. The summit will delve into the concerns identified as most important by business, industry, education and government and community stakeholders in Halton. Among those concerns are: who will be in the workforce in 2010 and beyond; what does the current workforce look like; what will future jobs be; who will fill those jobs; and, will employees be qualified enough to ensure a competitive workforce. Four speakers selected for their expertise will address these and other important questions. They include: Dr. Edward Gordon, author of The 2010 Meltdown Solving the Impending Jobs Crises; Gene Luczkiw from the Centre for Global Innovation and Leadership; Phil Jarvis, vice president and co-founder of the National Work/Life Centre; and Rosemary Amelia Venne, a demography expert from the University of Saskatchewan. The FutureForce Summit will benefit employers, employees, associations, educators, government representatives, human resources managers, general managers and others in the community concerned about impending skills shortages. Tickets cost $125 per person and include breakfast and lunch. To register visit www.futureforcehalton.ca. Led by the Halton Industry Education Council and funded by the Government of Canada, FutureForce Halton fosters partnerships between business, industry, education and government. In the face of a potential skills gap between those looking for work and the kind of work being offered, community partnership is the foundation for securing economic success and sustainability in Halton.
