Not only are residents being told the basics about voting in the upcoming Nov. 13 municipal elections, but the candidates also had an information session last week -- just days after the nomination filing deadline. These tips were among the issues brought up at the candidate information session Thursday at Town Hall, a meeting held to clarify the electoral process in Oakville for the upcoming election's candidates, about 50 of whom were in attendance. Among the topics candidates had questions about was the filing of financial records. "Your election financial records must be kept by you for the term of the office," said Town Clerk Cathie Best, who added that suspension from office would occur if candidates failed to produce those documents. "Be really careful when filing your finances," she added. That point was echoed by Diane Ploss, municipal advisor for the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, who was on hand to go into detail about the importance of carefully filing papers and finances, something she said should be approached with "openness, transparency and accountability."
