Nathan is a student in the Architectural Technology Program at Sheridan where he has been asked to serve on the Dean's Council for his program. In his mid-twenties, he moved to South America to work with a church that worked in a poor area in Argentina. He worked as a leader of a group of teenaged students. Today he continues to work with students with his church, helping them learn and develop healthy lifestyles and worldviews. Centre for Skills Development and Training Marissa McTasney After seven years in the corporate industry, the birth of her two children inspired her to jump into a passion and start a new career. She traded in her high heels for construction boots. Tomboy Trades core business is to build a national online registry of women in the skilled trades, provide fun and safe work wear for women as well as to provide residential renovation services. We currently carry work boots, hard hats, tool belts, safety glasses and t-shirts in four colours, pink, red, blue and green. Centre for Skills Development and Training Nicky Crone Prior to joining the program, Nicky was selfemployed as a picture framer and was the head of the framing department for a prominent art gallery in Toronto. She then went on to pursue an administrative position within the gallery but found herself yearning to return to a position where she was able to work with her hands. She has always had a strong interest in carpentry and together with another student, Gail, who was also a scholarship recipient, they have started a company of their own called Women Who Build Stuff. Centre for Skills Development and Training Gail Prosser Gail Prosser began her professional career in the hospitality industry working for Holland America Cruise Lines in the Yukon Territory. She moved to Toronto where she became General Manager in a popular bistro and then moved on to become a wine representative. Gail's passion for home repairs and working with wood was no longer able to be kept below the surface. Gail has recently secured an apprenticeship as a finish carpenter with South Park Design Build. This firm specializes in renovating upscale homes, utilizing the latest in home design trends which are often featured in Canadian design magazines. She also has a small business with Nicky Crone called Women Who Build Stuff. For the past 1 1/2 years, she has been taking night school courses in the field of Home Inspection, with the long term goal of becoming a qualified Home Inspector. Taking the Women in Skilled Trades program, has given her the added skills and confidence to launch her own business Miss Fix It Do-It Her-Selfer and MC especially wants to show women just how easy it is to do repairs themselves.
