The Invictas, who have competed in Halton for the past decade but have been in existence since 1922, are a member club of the Ontario Varsity Football League. The OV league features more than 200 games of football in a two-month span, all of which are refereed by no less than 10 CFL and CIS officials. This upcoming season, the Invictas will field atom, peewee and junior varsity teams in Oakville. The club will also have atom and peewee squads based out of both Burlington and Milton, along with the Halton Invictas (varsity) and Halton Jr. Invictas (junior varsity) teams. Registration for the varsity, junior varsity, Oakville atom and Oakville peewee teams will be held next weekend (Feb. 3-4) at Oakville Place. More than 120 players signed up at the club's peewee registration Wednesday at Holy Trinity. The Invictas plan to make several more announcements in the upcoming weeks, including the implentation of a scholarship program for players interested in attending a post-secondary institution. The OV league is also exploring the possibility of random drug testing this season for use of marijuana and other illicit substances. According to club officials, the majority of Invictas players that move on to the university level become starters with their university squads.
