www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday February 2, 2007 - 11 New constable on Kerr There is a new face on Kerr Street. Halton Regional Police Constable Mark Vegso takes over as Village Constable from Constable Ellie Van Vliet, who is retiring after a 20-year career with the Halton Regional Police Service, 15 years of which were spent in the Kerr Street role. "I'm very excited at this opportunity to serve the Kerr Street community," said Vegso. "This is the kind of police work that I enjoy most, meeting people and being available to help them one on one." Vegso has big shoes to fill. For 15 years, Van Vliet has been a familiar face and an asset to the police on Main Street. In 2006, Van Vliet was the first recipient of the Ray Hendry Award for Community Policing given by the Halton police. She was also made a Rotarian Fellow and named the Oakville Kiwanis Police Officer of the Year. "Mark is going to do an excellent job," said Cst. Van Vliet. "I know that this wonderful community will give him a warm welcome and the ongoing support that they always gave me." In 1996 he joined the Toronto Police Service and worked in a variety of units including uniform patrol, foot patrol and community response. He joined Halton police in 1998 and has worked uniform patrol in Oakville since then. He is also a Training Officer and a member of the Bicycle Team. The Kerr Street sub-station is located at 352 Kerr St., behind the Rodean Co-Op John Scott Building. The telephone number is 905-844-6444. There are three Village Constables in Oakville.
