Eroded and damaged floor tiling was being dug up starting Tuesday, and once the floors dry out, new flooring will be installed, Kenney says. "We have dehumidifiers in the building and drying devices that we hope will allow us to start work right away. We're hoping that within the next week, we'll have seen significant progress." As for what the cost of the flood damage will be, Kenney says it will be "a significant financial loss," but it's too early for an estimate. In terms of damage to residents' belongings in their apartments, tenants are all insured ­ that's a lease requirement, Kenney said. The vice president of operations also addressed a number of residents' complaints that have been voiced through the media regarding a lack of maintenance in the building. "We were alarmed to hear these allegations of maintenance, so in response to that I have a group of maintenance people that work for us going door-todoor, confirming with residents if they have maintenance requests," said Kenney, noting most residents said they were problem-free. Cap Reit isn't legally permitted in a unit without a formally written and signed maintenance request on the part of the resident, he added. "We're very concerned about the wellbeing of the residents, and want to get things back to normal as quickly as possible," Kenney said.
