The Friday, March 30 gala will raise funds for the hospital's Critical Care Unit and will be held at Rattlesnake Point Golf and Country Club. Cocktails are at 6 p.m., dinner is at 7:30 p.m. Two hundred tickets have already been sold and approximately 100 more have recently been released. Clark was 15 years old when in the spring of 2005, she was suddenly stricken with Reye's Syndrome, a rare disease that shut down most of her body's systems, put her in an 11-day coma and had such profoundly lingering effects she had to learn to walk and talk all over again. Her mom, Nancy, who works in the constituency office of Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn, swears she heard John Sebastian and the Lovin' Spoonful's tune Do You Believe in Magic playing on the radio the day her daughter regained consciousness, learned it was Mother's Day and whispered Happy Mother's Day to her mom. Just recently, as a result of media coverage of the family's ordeal, Sydney received a letter from Sebastian with handwritten lyrics to the song Do You Believe in Magic. With the gala fundraiser emceed by Flynn, Clarica has sponsored a SickKids table where some of Sydney's doctors will attend. There will be singers, magicians, politicians and more attending and entertaining. In addition to fine dining and entertainment, a silent auction will feature items including: a sunset cruise out of Oakville Harbor on a 35 ft. sailboat along with dinner; TaylorMade golf clubs valued at $1,500; three pairs of Platinum Raptors tickets; a foursome at a Muskoka Clublink in Rocky Crest Golf Club and an overnight stay at a Delta luxury resort, as well as restaurant dining, a year of cleaning from Molly Maid, overnight at any U.S.A.
