26 - The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday April 11, 2007 www.oakvillebeaver.com LARGEST OAKVILLE HOME SHOW EVER RUNS APRIL 13, 14, 15 IN GLEN ABBEY! Landscaping Rocks! Custom Kitchen Cabinetry A tour through landscape design firm Ian McClelland Associates' website conjures green envy. As the portfolio images of beautiful and distinctive gardens, patios, pools and fences flash on the computer screen they each evoke a calm serenity. Yet, for those whose residential environs aren't among the firm's achievements, viewers can't help but issue a covetous `I want that too.' A first-hand look at a sampling of the local design and construction company's work is on view at this weekend's Oakville Home Show. At its station there will be an outdoor living room complete with a water feature ensconced by a curved stone bowl in a one tonne rock, high quality interlocking stone beneath the feet and a bar where McClelland, the company's principal designer, will be standing to meet and greet show visitors. It's an opportunity to meet the whole team too. This is Ian McClelland Associate's tenth annual trip to the Oakville Home Show and its awe-inspiring booth has always been a popular draw. Understandably, in 2006 Ian McClelland Associates was voted `Best Landscape Company' by readers of the Oakville Beaver. The landscape design firm specializes in residential design and construction. The majority of the company's work over its 12year history has been focused on making Oakville's residential outdoor properties beautiful. Ian has been the company's principal designer since 1994 and in that time built a reputation for creating outdoor drama through his impeccable attention to detail. By building to scale and respecting the existing architectural style of the home and property, the end result is a truly unique environment for each client. To do this the company employs skilled tradespeople in the horticultural, carpentry and masonry fields. They are an expert group at capturing the relaxing sight, sound and feel of a constructed pond, pool, waterfall or fountain; the sturdiness of stone walls, terraces, steps and boulder groupings; the complementary softscapes of a bevy of plants that are as colourful as they are fragrant throughout the season; and lighting to reflect and bathe all of this carefully crafted and constructed layout in well-deserved attention through the day and night. It's difficult for Misani Custom Design to showcase their one-of-a-kind cabinetry at the Oakville Home Show, because well, their work is madeto-measure, specific to each client's home. Rest assured visitors to the Misani booth will be able to see, inspect and touch substantial evidence of the design and manufacturing company's different finishes and hardware. "It is a challenge to feature our work because as designers and manufacturers of custom cabinetry we do not stock or represent various lines of kitchens," said Misani's Teresa Kennelly. Thankfully, 15 years of maintaining a reputation for superior quality combined with unique design and creative finishes follows the firm's travels. "Referrals have been the main driver of our business for over 10 years," added Kennelly. Misani looks to the Oakville Home Show as a great way to raise its profile in the community. Already, the manufacturing facility relocated from Brampton 18 months ago and in January Misani's showroom doors were thrown open. Just as having a presence at this weekend's home show gives Misani an opportunity to showcase its talents to the public, having the new Wyecroft Road showroom also allows the company to develop relationships with homeowners, architects, general contractors and interior designers. As the manufacturer and designer there's no go between or middleman, the relationship with clients from start to finish is a direct one. While at the booth, visitors just may want to pre-register for an upcoming free, Renovation Toolkit Workshop slated for Sunday May 6, from 2-4 pm at the Misani Design showroom. Industry professionals including a representative from the town's building department, a home entertainment specialist, professional decorator, general contractor and residential designer will also be on hand to answer any renovation planning questions. · Discount coupon at www.jenkinsshow.com · Makeovers live on stage · Fashion shows · NHL Star Ron Ellis · Muskoka Wildlife presentation · Great family outing · Live Music Like a troupe of traveling magicians, the hair and makeup stylists at Prelude Hair Design & Esthetics will transform a woman into a raving beauty -- all within an hour. The award-winning salon takes the stage at this weekend's Oakville Home Show to spotlight its talented stylists and share some tips with onlookers. They are slated to appear Friday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. Prelude's instant makeover presentation is all part of their business' goal to enrich communities and lives. "It's also just plain fun to see and to do too," said Prelude's Ross Vaccari, one of the salon's four partners. The others are Frank DeBartolo, Paul Cea and Fehmi Veli. They have been in business more than 40 years and for that they are grateful to their loyal clients. "This is our way of giving back to the communities that support us," said Vaccari. Clients and show visitors are likely to benefit from the team's vast experience that has been garnered from years of practice and travel all over the world to shows in London, New York, and the like. This is the first appearance for Prelude at the Oakville Home Show. "This is a new venture for us, but if it works out well, we'll be back next time," said Vaccari. Years back Prelude Hair Design & Esthetics did a similar presentation at a fair in Barrie, said Vaccari, and it was totally enjoyable to visitors and the participating hair stylists. "We're hoping for the same experience at the Oakville Home Show," he added. A fashion show courtesy of Studio 49 follows afterward with the latest displays of casual and evening wear on the catwalk. Exhibitors Offer Great Quality and Great Savings The 18th annual Oakville Home Show has a bevy of exhibitors to ensure visitors leave with plenty of suggestions for them and their abodes to look good inside and out. Spectators could also leave with an armload of opportunities to win prizes. This weekend's show at Glen Abbey Recreation Centre is double the size of its predecessors. "For the first time it allows us enough space to add many more great exhibits featuring local companies, plus a large entertainment stage," said show manager Dave Jenkins, of Jenkins Show Productions. The seasoned event organizer has used the extra space and stage to the show's best advantage. The floor plan is chock full of exhibitors that cover everything a homeowner needs, from the top down below the ground, including roofing and solar products to furniture and ceiling trim, to leaky basement repairs and organizing the garage. Local custom home designer, builder and renovator DeJong Homes will have a booth set up at the show. The firm's participation is apropos considering the 15-year-old business shares the same goal as the Oakville Home Show -- to enhance life through improving the home front. "We create spaces that fit our clients' lifestyles and budgets," said owner Michael DeJong. The array of exhibitors at the show has the inside and outside covered too, including cookware, mattresses and painting to garage doors, screen doors and lawn care. And for the dwellers of the domicile the range of exhibitors from the inside out spans the gamut from eye wear, cosmetics and fashion shows to chiropractors, investment and mortgage advisors. There's a range of interests covered across the length and width of the show floor to keep male and female visitors of all ages intrigued too. Children will be mesmerized by the Muskoka Wildlife Centre's educational and informative presentations about the skunks, raccoons, opossums, snakes, owls and lynxes that inhabit the northern landscapes.
