In 1775, 20-year-old Charlotte Taylor fled her English country house with her lover, the family's black butler. To escape the fury of her father, they boarded a ship for the West Indies, but 10 days after reaching shore, Charlotte's lover died of yellow fever, leaving her alone and pregnant in Jamaica. Blending fact and fiction, Armstrong will describe the life of her dauntless and unusual greatgreat-great grandmother. Copies of Armstrong's book will be available for signing. An Oakville resident, Armstrong is well-known as a human rights activist and the recipient of numerous awards, including the Order of Canada.
