National Volunteer Week In appreciation of our volunteers www.heartandstroke.ca Altruists of Oakville Living and Acting for the Good of Others Altruism noun [U] (Webster's) - willingness to do things, which benefit other people, unselfish regard for or devotion to the welfare of others A perfect definition for the individuals of the Altruists of Oakville, a small group of unsung heroes consisting of members ranging in age from 16-70+. For almost 2 decades these individuals have made a very large contribution to the Oakville and Halton Region in excess of $600,000. Many of their fine efforts can be seen on a daily basis in the form of 2 Oakville Transit Care-A-Van buses, a Red Cross bus, DARE van for the police, the first 2 Public Access Defibrillators available in Oakville placed in Seniors residences, as well as 2 Special Needs dogs for Autistic Children. On an annual basis their kindness is directed to Food Bank donations, Kerr Street Ministries, High School Bursaries, and Local Sports Team sponsorship just to name a few.
