Oakville's premiere supper club, the Tongue N' Groove, lived up to its slogan last Saturday shelling out plenty of all three during its grand opening. Four spotlights shone spiraling columns of light into the night sky, marking the entrance to the club where a $20 cover charge gained you entry. Beyond the bouncer-guarded velvet rope, guests were ushered into the club's main dining room where those interested in the restaurant side of the club sat at elegant tables enjoying some of the club's culinary masterpieces beneath the subdued glow of five great chandeliers. Items on the menu included Calamari for $10, Red Snapper Fillet for $24, Le Ferme Chicken Breast for $19 and Chicken K-Bobs for $14. Dinner seating times have been set for 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. On either side of this main room, customers crowded around the two very well stocked bars, whose back walls, lined with rows and rows of brightly coloured liquor bottles, advertised countless options for thirsty patrons. At one point, the guests of the club were entertained by a duo of gyrating belly dancers that danced from table to table soliciting people to dance with them, some of whom did so while simultaneously turning red from embarrassment. Those looking for something a little more lively than dining and drinking needed only wait until 10:30 p.m. when the tables were cleared away to reveal a dance floor. Despite the opulent nature of the club, which includes attendants in the restrooms who hand you towels to dry your hands, Warsh insists his club is not snobbish. "We're a very sexy place. Maintaining this air of class requires some help from the guests as the club does have a dress code, which essentially states that guests are to look stylish. This requirement was taken very seriously and anyone not fulfilling it was turned away at the door by the bouncers. However, even though dress shirts and dress pants seemed to be the order of the evening, there were a large number of attractive young women in tight-fitting jeans who seemed to have no trouble getting in. Bringing the club to this point has not been easy, said Warsh. "We started this project in October of 2006. I went through a lot of hard times with our contractors. There were delayed openings in December, delayed openings in February." Warsh said his refusal to open the club until it met with the vision he had for it also delayed the opening. "We kept working it and working it because I wanted it to be perfect, service wise. Aesthetically I wanted it to be perfect. So, we just kept on postponing until I was satisfied with the whole project." This attention to detail has not gone unnoticed by the club's customers.
