In addition to the Post Office, the building also housed the Customs Office and Frank N. Kyle's drug store. Mr. Cote lived at 350 Lakeshore Road from 1901 to 1919, however, the original building is estimated to date to approximately 1868 when records indicate his father, Louis Cote, first purchased the property. Previous renovations to the building revealed that this was originally a one storey house and in 1901 when Louis V. Cote acquired the property, he also took out a mortgage likely indicating when the second storey was added. Contextually, the property marks the eastern anchor of historic downtown Oakville. During the 18 years Mr. Cote resided at 350 Lakeshore Road East, the Post Office and Postmaster played a significant role in the community and several references are made to him in historical texts of Oakville. A second PIC, planned for later in 2007, will present the analysis / evaluation of the potential sites and the preferred site and layout for the North Satellite Operations Depot and Patrol Yard.
