Anyone currently sitting next to a sixfoot weightlifting black bear wearing a Buff Daddy T-shirt is advised they may be in the company of thieves. Oakville's Murrons Cabinetree, a high-end cottage furniture and decorative accessory store located at 215 Lakeshore Rd. E., is missing its iconic stuffed black bear whose presence has greeted patrons since the store's opening 15 years ago. The bear was accidentally left outside the store after closing time last Friday and has not been seen since. "We were kind of hoping he'd just gone away for the long weekend. A bit of an outing and we'd get him back," said owner Murray Farncombe. "But he hasn't come back yet and we'd appreciate him back." Farncombe says the theft could have been just a misunderstanding by someone seeing the bear in front of the store, believing it was up for grabs. Because of that he says whoever took the bear can return it with no questions asked. "I'm not going to charge anyone with theft or anything because basically it was our fault," said Farncombe. "Maybe they thought we fired the bear and left him out." This is not the first time the Murrons Cabinetree bear has gone on an adventure, with previous thefts always resulting in the eventual return of the bear. Murrons Cabinetree's bear "He was stolen about seven or eight years ago and he ended up going to a party at Sheridan. We got him back after the weekend. The police brought him back, actually, but we didn't press charges and we won't press charges this time either, but I would like the bear back," said Farncombe. With such a familiar sight missing from the front of his store, Farncombe has had hundreds of inquiries about where the bear has gone and is hoping the bear's return will save him from having to do something drastic. Anyone who finds the bear is asked to call Murrons Cabinetree at 905-3385181.
