Zimbabwean art show benefit continues Due to an overwhelming response and requests from the public to keep the show going, Celebrating Life Through Stone will continue until Sunday, Aug. 19. Originally, the African sculpture show was supposed to close on Aug. 12. The show features sculptures made by artists from Zimbabwe using Shona stone, which is unique to Africa and exists in an array of vibrant colours. Proceeds from the exhibition go towards helping the Zimbabwean artists, all of whom are affected by AIDS and live in a country facing one of the world's harshest epidemics. The show is organized by Chaka Chikodzi, a Zimbabwe native and artist who moved to Canada in 2001. Since then, he has been showcasing the talents of these Zimbabwean artists to help them out at home. Chikodzi founded Africville, an organization that tours the country with sculptures by Zimbabwe artists to spread the culture and to raise awareness and funds to help its people. Fifteen per cent of funds raised at the show will go to Maple Grove United Church's initiative, Action for Aids. The church has been supporting a family stricken with AIDS for the last three years. The show continues today, Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. 6 p.m. It's taking place at a lakefront estate located at 2460 Carrington Place.
