The blue jay, found in the area of Eighth Line and Upper Middle Road, is the second infected bird found in the Halton Region recently with a dead crow in Burlington also testing positive for the virus. "We have consistently found West Nile virus activity in Halton since 2001," said Dr. Bob Nosal, Medical Officer of Health for Halton Region. "Evidence of WNv activity has now been found in each municipality within Halton Region. It is important that all Halton residents take measures to avoid mosquito bites." Some of the measures Halton Region recommends include using insect repellants containing DEET and covering up by wearing light-coloured, loosefitting, long-sleeved shirts and pants made of tightly woven fabrics.
