The event will run from 6-8 p.m. in the hospital cafeteria located in the Main Lobby of OTMH. Volunteer representatives will be available to discuss the various volunteering opportunities and provide a tour of the gift shop. "Our newly renovated gift shop stocks a great variety of unique items from gourmet and hostess gifts, to clothing, jewellery and baby wear," said Joean Meyer, president of the Auxiliary to OTMH. "We are looking for outgoing people to join our volunteer team. Currently, we have openings for cashiers and buyers, as well as people with experience in customer service, marketing and display work. Retail experience would certainly be an asset, but is not essential. "With our shop open during the weekends and evenings, we have a variety of daytime, evening and weekend shifts available," said Meyer. "We invite anyone interested in joining our team to come out to our gift shop open house to learn more about this exciting opportunity," Meyer said. The Treasure Cove Gift Shop is located in the Main Lobby of OTMH and is operated by the Auxiliary. Its hours of operation are 9 a.m.-8:30 p.m., Monday to Friday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m., on Saturday and Sunday. With a membership of more than 700 volunteers, the Auxiliary has contributed more than $5 million dollars to OTMH to date to help enhance the quality of healthcare at OTMH. Last year, the gift shop raised $155,000 towards hospital equipment. New Oakville Cancer Consulting Service Does House Calls Cancer is a word that has become unfortunately all too common in our community and many of us have been directly impacted by this illness. With what seems like longer wait times for surgery and cancer treatments as well as very scientific medical information it is challenging to make sense of it all. The screening, diagnosis and treatment of many cancers today have significantly evolved into a highly sophisticated and complicated cancer journey which often has patients and their family members overwhelmed. Additionally, the provincial resource challenges in managing wait times to see specialists means patients and family members are often turning to the internet, organized support groups or "friends of a friend" to gain some information into the treatment options that may lie ahead after a cancer diagnosis. Cancer Insight is a new private consulting service aimed to prepare you with credible and timely medical cancer expertise, while reducing your time spent researching cancer and optimizing your care within the system. They strive to stay abreast of the latest standards and treatments by attending key cancer medical conferences across North America. As an additional bonus, their Cancer Insight personalized services are offered in the comfort of your home or with you at important specialist appointments so you don't miss a word. Cancer Insight was formed by two partners, Shaniah Stafford, a specialized nurse expert in the field of cancer and Scott Leduc, previously a manager within the Biotech industry introducing breakthrough cancer treatments to Canada. "Our clients find the medical information surrounding their cancer diagnosis completely overwhelming and too much to take in, all at once, in their doctor's office" explains Shaniah. "Once they are at home, starting to digest all the complicated information, they look to review, validate and better comprehend the cancer treatment journey they are facing. Having a Cancer Insight expert sit with them for a few hours, allows them to have additional crucial medical and drug coverage questions answered that they could not think of in the doctor's office. Our clients tell us that our insight does make a difference towards helping them make confident choices around a life impacting diagnosis" If you or someone you know is facing a new cancer diagnosis, waiting for a specialist appointment or looking for insight and clarification on treatment options, Cancer Insight can offer you that cancer medical expert that you wish you had as a neighbor.
