Fourth Line bridge closing for a year The Fourth Line bridge over the QEW may close for a year on Nov. 10. Members of the Community Services Committee Tuesday heard the closure is necessary to facilitate highway expansion work initiated by the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario. The completed project will see increased highway capacity along the QEW and a wider bridge on Fourth Line. The new bridge will incorporate pedestrian and cycling facilities, as well as additional lanes for traffic and transit over the QEW. The work will also necessitate an overnight closure of the QEW from Third Line to Dorval Drive (including the off-ramp Westbound to Kerr Street) from 11:45 p.m. on Nov. 10 to 9:15 a.m. on Nov. 11 in order to remove the existing Fourth Line bridge. A widening of the QEW between Trafalgar Road and Third Line will ultimately provide for High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes on the QEW through Oakville between Burloak Drive and Trafalgar Road. The road closures will be submitted for approval by Town Council on Oct. 29.
