Watts set up Corey Trivino's powerplay goal with five minutes to play in the opening period to put his team up 2-1 and then scored a power-play marker of his own 7:19 into the second. Watts also had an assist in Wednesday's 3-2 overtime loss to the United States. Canada East wrapped up the roundrobin portion of the tournament with a 4-1 win Thursday against Germany. Oakville defenceman Chris Haltigin was named Canada East's captain prior to the tournament. The tournament concludes tomorrow (Sunday) with a championship game that will be broadcast on TSN at 7:30 p.m. SPORTSBRIEFS The OHL's top goalie last season, Mason faced at least 30 shots in each of his games but allowed two goals or less five times. He stopped 40 shots in a shutout of the Oshawa Generals Oct. 21. Mason, a third round pick of Columbus in 2006, was chosen to represent the OHL for the second year in a row in the ADT Canada-Russia Challenge, which will be held later this month. Peewee AE Rangers on fire The Oakville Ren's Pet Depot peewee AE Rangers have rebounded nicely from losing their season-opening game, having posted a 10-0-1 record since to take over first place in the 13-team TriCounty division. In their past seven games, the Rangers have outscored their opponents 36-3 and recorded four shutouts. Goalies Lucas Cheeseman and Aidan Pelino shared the shutouts, made easier by the stellar defensive play of their teammates. Oakville has received scoring from all three of its forward lines, with several different players notching multiple-goal games. Affiliate players John Breeson, Ryan McNamara and Billy Ratcliffe have also helped out. In tournament action, the Rangers recently went 1-1-2 at a competition in Pittsburgh, missing out on the tournament final because of a tie-breaker. HORIZON WINNERS: Sixteen students from the Oakville-based Horizon Taekwon-Do club combined to win 23 medals at the ICTF World Championships, held recently in Edmonton. Posting at least one first-place finish in sparring or patterns events were Daniel Moscatel, Jesse Comeau,Amy Moscatel,Alan Ferguson,Tyler Kelly, Hunter Melito, Philip Mazzuca and Arielle Zamdvaiz. Wayne Wellington, Roberto Rivas, Daniella Austin, Olivia Melito and Damian Duerden won at least one silver each, and Eric Emidio added a bronze. Paulina Goncalves and Nicholas Devries also represented Horizon at the championships. Louie Sanchez is the group's chief instructor. Mason goalie of the month Oakville's Steve Mason helped turn around the London Knights season and was rewarded with the Ontario Hockey League's goaltender of the month award. Mason began the year with the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets and in his absence, the Knights lost their first six games. Mason returned to the team and won his first seven starts. He finished the month with a goals against average of 2.00 and a .944 save percentage in eight games. Locals help Streetsville Tigers to gold Local residents and linemates Ryan MacDonald and Colt Jaime helped the Streetsville atom AA Tigers win gold at the Streetsville Fall Classic hockey tournament last weekend. MacDonald had five goals and two assists during the tournament, while Jaime had two goals and four helpers. MacDonald set up Jaime for the tying goal in the Tigers' semifinal game against Brampton, which was decided in overtime. In the final against Vaughn, MacDonald scored to tie the game 1-1 in the second period.
