www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday November 23, 2007 - 13 Rigatoni for Research toasting ten A Toast to Ten, the 10th annual Rigatoni for Research Dinner and Silent Auction, is set for Wednesday, Nov. 28. The fundraiser will be held at LeDome Banquet Centre in conjunction with the Hospital for Sick Kids to raise money for brain tumour research. Each year more than 100 new cases of brain tumors are diagnosed at Sick Kids alone, a statistic which is rising annually at an alarming rate of 20 per cent. In August of 1997, Kathy and Dan Douthart lost their beautiful seven-yearold son Christopher (Kee Kee) to medullablastoma -- a malignant brain tumor. For 10 years, the Doutharts and the Rigatoni for Research committee, have organized the event to purchase research equipment at the Arthur and Sonia Labatt Brain Tumour Research Centre at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. To date, the committee has raised more than $1 million. Contact rigatoni@cogeco.ca. What if they wanted to ban a book written by a Jew?" she wondered. Enola said censorship is an ongoing issue of interest with her group and expects the book will generate debate at their next monthly meeting. Meanwhile, Van de Vrande said if he's in a bookstore he'll take a look at The Golden Compass. He said the board doesn't receive many complaints about the books kids can read in school. "I don't know who brought it to our attention, but I appreciate them doing so." Whether the author is an atheist or not is irrelevant, said Van de Vrande. "(But) if he's espousing those ideas without offering commentary on it then that would be of concern."
