During the war, Van completed 39 missions as a tail gunner in a Lancaster bomber, 49th Squadron, stationed in Fiskerton, England. He was a dedicated hockey dad and had a passion for golf but unfortunately golf didn't have a passion for him. Later in life, he became the owner of Thomas Abrasive Products Inc. in Oakville for 25 years. Sadly saying goodbye is her partner Les Wark. Barb was predeceased by her infant son Randall David. Barb will also be missed by her sons Michael (and wife Laura), Stephen (and wife Sandi), and her daughter Lise, her sister Beverley (and husband Frank). He was at his last Remembrance Day ceremony in Oakville this past November 11 and received thanks for his war service from many who attended. Dad, who was born in Canada, was very proud of his Icelandic heritage and presented to each daughter a genealogical search he commissioned tracing a direct family line back to the 10th century.
