The concert runs from 7-9 p.m. at St. Aidan's Anglican Church, 318 Queen Mary Dr. "Our theme questions whether humanity can achieve sustainable development without also accomplishing sustainable disarmament," said Stephen Dankowich, executive director of the Oakville Community Centre for Peace, Ecology and Human Rights (OCCPEHR). The peace concert will feature two keynote speakers and two musical artists. One keynote speaker is Sarah Bollozos. "A graduate of the London School of Economics and Political Science, Bollozos' interest in international development has led her to postings in Uganda to work with landmine survivors and to Afghanistan where she lived for the past two years," said Mervyn Russell, chairperson of OCCPEHR. The second keynote speaker is Janis Alton, a board member of the International Peace Bureau, the world's oldest international peace network. "In November 2007, she attended the IPB's conference in Alexandria, Egypt on the theme of Books or Bombs. She focuses on the need to delegitimize war and encourages the inclusion of women directly in all decision-making processes for peace building from conflict prevention to reconstruction," said Russell. Musical artists include an Oakvillebased folk-rock band, GCDC. The band members include Ricky Joe Vella and Ronnie J. MacKay, who regularly appear at The Moonshine Café. The singer-songwriting guitarists perform covers and original songs. Also performing is Jay Clowater, a Burlingtonbased country-folk artist with 20 years of past musical experience. Clowater has performed at previous Oakville Peace concerts. Tickets will be available at the door for $10, $5 for students and $1 for children twelve years of age or younger.
