"The greatest community event in Oakville," is how Donna-Lee Milford of R a i n b o w Expressions describes Relay For Life. Each staff member at R a i n b o w Expressions is involved on the team, and they enthusiastically embrace the cause. Each year, customers are offered various incentives in return for their donation to the Rainbow Expressions' Relay team. The team's hard work has resulted in Rainbow Expressions being one of the top 10 fundraising teams at Relay For Life. Rainbow Expressions has had a team participate in Relay since 2004, and has raised a total of $39,247 to date. Not only are small businesses putting teams in Relay For Life, but Oakville's big businesses will be there as well. The Scotiabank Group in Oakville is a business that has had teams spending the night at Relay since the event started in 2001. At a recent kickoff at their downtown branch, Scotiabank staff got Appleby College in the dining hall. For experienced participants, team captains will be able to register their teams and choose campsite locations at 7 p.m. At 7:30 p.m. there will be an information session for everyone, whether they're familiar with the event or just want details on what is new for 2008. For those who may be new to Relay, but want to find out more about forming and registering a team, this night is a great chance to see and hear what Relay is all about.
