Outlet Store Trafalgar Village 125 CROSS AVENUE Get connected with 311 As of Tuesday it became easier for anyone in Halton to call Halton Region, their local municipality, school board or non-emergency police service. That's thanks to the new 311 -- One Call Does it All service. Imagine only needing to know one three-digit telephone number for all of these types of calls: · I want to sign up for swimming lessons. · Someone took my bike. · When will my garbage be picked up? · A strange dog just bit me. · My sewer is backing up. · What time does the library open? · Where is the nearest public school? Only nine other jurisdictions in Canada have 311, including Windsor, Ottawa and Sudbury in Ontario. There are 60 311 systems in the U.S. The 311 Halton service is the first 311 in North America to fully operate in a two-tiered municipal government, which also includes the police. It is also the first 311 to include school boards. This is the second such similar service to be launched in Halton since last June when 211 became official. The 211 service is an information and referral service, which helps people find community, health and social services, regardless of whether they're provided by government or the not-forprofit sector. The 311 launch was attended by Halton Region's Chair Gary Carr, Halton's four municipal mayors, the chief of police and the chair of Halton's public and Catholic school boards. The service involved extensive collaboration among the participating partners and is all about improving access to government for the people of Halton. For information visit www.halton.ca/services/311; www.halton.ca/services/211 or www.211halton.ca. Tuesday's launch of the 311 services immediately followed the launch of Emergency Preparedness Educational Resources. Huge Super Store 228 King St. E.
