Oakville businesses honoured for their excellence Oakville's leading businesses received the recognition that only comes from being the best on Thursday during the 2007 Oakville Awards for Business Excellence. Throughout the evening, which took place at the Oakville Conference and Banquet Centre, six businesses were honoured with trophies that recognized entrepreneurial greatness at a variety of levels. Supper Works was recognized for its innovation, leadership, energy and inspiration with Oakville's coveted Entrepreneur of the Year Award while Sales Resource Group secured the runnerup position. Oakville's Large Company of the Year award went to local engineering and project management giant AMEC while Oakville's Small Company of the Year Award went to Continental Ingredients Canada for being a very successful niche marketer in the food processing industry. Second place in the large company category went to ASL Distribution Services and second place in the small company category went to SOCS Retail. Merriam Music's extraordinary service, community support and client management netted it the title of Oakville's Professional Service Provider of the Year with The Body Shaping Fitness Studio for Women receiving the runner up position. In the culinary battle for Oakville's Restaurateur of the Steve Ciccone, of AMEC, accepts the Small Company Award. Year Award, Twisted Fork's creative flair in the kitchen, in its business management and in the marketplace carried it to victory with the Rude Native Rick Burns, Whole Food Market, Environmental Leader of the Year taking the runner-up position. Finally, Oakville's Environmental Leader of the Year award went to Whole Food Market with Lakeside Logistics being awarded the runner-up position. This award is given to a company that exhibits a significant proactive concern for, and proven success with, conducting business processes in such a way as to leave the environment better off because of the company's products, services or investments. Presented jointly by the Rotary Club of Oakville West and the Oakville Chamber of Commerce, the awards program is also a fundraiser to support such important Rotary youth initiatives as the Awards for Academic Excellence, a scholarship and bursary program for graduating Oakville secondary school students. Since its inception 13 years ago the Oakville Awards for Business Excellence have generated more than $250,000 for local initiatives while honouring more than 150 exceptional Oakville entrepreneurs and businesses.
