Ellis lost his 18-year-old son David nine years ago when a dough-mixing machine he was cleaning at an Oakville bakery, turned on and pulled him into the blades. It was his sec- ond day on the job. The mourning father told the story to St. Ignatius of Loyola students yesterday to raise awareness on youth safety in the workplace. Ellis, founder and president of Our Youth at Work, has been a safety advocate reaching thousands of listeners through presentations at school assemblies and corporate meeting. Ellis' presentation is focused on teaching students about workplace safety and making sure employers "look over them and respect them" by providing safety training and orientation before starting a job. "I heard that the presentation would be emotional," said Marianne Pasiliao, president of student council at Loyola. And emotional it was. He began the presentation with a video about his son David. It included details about his death, family interviews and a speech from Ellis.
