www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday May 2, 2008 - 55 Cross-border champs Local youth invited to show off soccer skills Boys and girls ages 10-14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the 2008 Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge. The local competition, sponsored by Knights of Columbus Marian Council 3881, will be held Saturday, June 7 at Sheridan Hills Park, beginning at 9 a.m. In the event of inclement weather, a rain date has been set for the following day. The Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge is a similar format to the Knights of Columbus annual free throw competition. Participants are given 15 penalty kicks from 12 yards away, with kicks in the centre of the goal earning five points, shots to the bottom corners earning 10 points and shots to the top corners of the goal earning 20 points. Winners at the local competition will advance to the district finals. Champs there will compete at regionals for the rights to advance to provincials. Participants are required to furnish proof of age and written parental consent. BEST IN BUFFALO: The Shermeta Law Rampage doubled the Stoney Creek Warriors 4-2 to win the Pepsi Select Hockey Tournament in Buffalo.The team won five straight games, 2-0 over Pickering, 2-1 against Clarkson and back-to-back 3-0 wins over Acton and Monroe County.
