www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday May 7, 2008 - 15 Health-related news, tips and stories from the YMCA of Oakville May 7, 2008 2008 Goal is $120,000 Raised to Date: $56,000 Our Mission The YMCA of Oakville is a charitable association open to all, dedicated to providing life-long opportunities for health enhancement and personal growth. IT'S ALL IN THE FAMILY Court Wells is proud to point out that the TechnoGym system shows that he has lifted over 982,000 pounds since he joined the Y 8 years ago! Y Manager of Membership Services, Andrea Bibby (centre), says hi to her parents Eden and Court Wells as they tune up at the Y's Wellness Centre. Andrea's twin boys Braydon and Carson love the Y and their Y Child Care Centre! Some people really make their job their home, and that is definitely the case for Andrea Bibby, YMCA of Oakville Manager of Membership Services. On any given day, you are sure to see this tall and vibrant lady in the halls of the Peter Gilgan FamilyY, or picking up her twin `almost' three year-olds at the Y's Junior Child Care Centre. It started 12 years ago when Andrea was welcomed into the Y as the `front desk supervisor'. Andrea quickly renamed her own job to `customer service supervisor', because... "there's no way you can supervise a `desk'", she said with a smile, "and I knew that our customers and members needed to be our focus." The YMCA of Oakville has come a long way to the new building that Andrea helped to open in 2002. "We went from a small 1,000 member building... and we brought only 500 with us...to a recreational home for over 8,000. Our great new facility is family-centred parents can come and climb or swim with their children, or the kids can have fun in programs or childminding while mom and dad take an exercise break themselves." Twins Braydon and Carson and husband Ryan are totally part of the Y family. "We love to bring the boys to swimming lessons and GymKids on Saturday mornings", said Andrea. "During the week, they play with their friends and learn new things every day at Y Child Care." Andrea's parents, Court and Eden Wells, enjoy the Y too. Her father, Court, retired 8 years ago and decided that it was time to shape up in the Y's Wellness Centre. His energy level went up and so he headed back into the work world again for a part-time job. "They all know me at the front desk, and I love the welcome. I have made friends here and I like the atmosphere in the building." HELP FOR FAMILIES - THE Y IS OPEN TO ALL As a charitable association, the YMCA of Oakville is committed to serving everyone in the community of Oakville, regardless of their ability to pay. Do not let program fees stand in the way of the Y's nurturing programs and services assistance is available for all programs, including facility membership, child care, camp, and community programs like YBC Basketball. Find out more about YMCA fee assistance and the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign by calling 905-845-3417. Mom, Eden, is an AquaFit enthusiast who has recently started doing GentleFit classes as well. "I have arthritis in my knee and AquaFit is the best thing for me. The instructors have great music and they make it fun, but it doesn't hurt." Eden also loves the social part of the Y and enjoys a coffee with friends after her workout. "Your exercise place has to be more than just exercise everyone is very friendly here and it's a great bonus that I get to see Andrea when I come." It's definitely all in the family for the Bibby's and the Wells's at the YMCA of Oakville. Drop in to 410 Rebecca Street to see Andrea and take a tour. She will explain that If a member brings in their spouse, the spouse will receive a 25% reduction in the monthly rate and a 50% reduction in the Y's building fee.
