Halla, an African word meaning "unexpected present" is the new name of the $Million or More Oakville campaign ($MOMO) non-traditional campaign thermometer. Ann Orlando suggested the name selected. Earning honourary mentions in the Name the Elephant contest run by $MOMO and The Oakville Beaver, were Mary Ellen Chown with the suggested name of Ubuntu, from the Bantu language and meaning "humanity towards others," and Aiden Freeman for suggesting Tembo, meaning elephant in Swahili. "Our elephant now has a name," said Ann Mulvale, who is co-chairing with Andrea Wagner, the campaign to raise $1 million or more toward easing the HIV/AIDS crisis in Africa. Prizes were provided by Pinocchio's Pick of the Crop in downtown Oakville. "It was clear that much thought had gone into the names, many of which were linked back to Africa, particularly meaningful given the cause of our campaign," said Mulvale. Oakville Beaver Artistic Director Steve Nease, who created the hand-drawn elephant as a non-traditional campaign thermometer, was joined by Iroquois Ridge High School student activist Nicole Markwick, and Mulvale in the task of selecting a winner.
