Nine Buzz players wrote their SATs Saturday morning before making the trip to Gloucester, where they joined their teammates. A couple of hours later they overcame a rocky start by scoring three unanswered goals in the third period to down the Griffins 9-7. They followed that up with a 14-7 victory over the Nepean Knights on Sunday as the Jr. B lacrosse squad improved to 3-1 on the season. "A lot of the guys were tired. We pulled it out but it wasn't pretty," said Buzz coach Stuart Brown. "It's a good sign that we can pull out the tough ones like that." Gloucester scored in the opening minute and went on to build a 6-2 lead before Oakville rebounded with four straight goals, including two by Spencer Taugher. Gloucester regained the lead in the final moments of the second period but Harry Hristopoulos scored his second of the game two minutes into the period to it up at seven and Braden Gallant gave Oakville its first lead of the game at the 7:30 mark. Oakville would cling to the one-goal edge until Erik Crepinsek put the game away with just over a minute remaining. Cam Watts, one of the late arrivals, allowed just two goals over the final 38 minutes after replacing Ryan Garbutt, who was making his first Jr. B start. "That's Cammy for you," Brown said. "I think Ryan was just so nervous. He wanted to do so well but we'll come right back with him." Less than 24 hours later, the Buzz had no problem dispatching the Nepean Knights, led by a seven-point performance by Brad Gillies. This time it was the Buzz opening a 6-2 lead in the first period and extending that to 8-2 in the second. Brown said a bit of sloppy play allowed Nepean to cut the gap to 10-7 but the Buzz shook it off to score four in a row to close the scoring. "That was a game where our conditioning paid off," Brown said. "We've been working the guys pretty hard and the other team just couldn't run with us." Gillies had two goals and five assists while Braeden Gallant had four goals and Josh Ruys had three. Alex Kruse had a goal and four helpers. Dylan Gilbert, who had five assists in Gloucester, had two goals and two assists and Taugher and Nic Soubry had the other goals. Oakville will host the winless Mississauga Chiefs (0-6) tonight (Friday) at the Glen Abbey Recreation Centre. Game time is 8 p.m. Notes: Ruys, Gallant and Gillies each had a goal against Nepean.
