www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday May 14, 2008 - 13 Mist was mysterious, but harmless Water treatment plant release water vapour on Wilson Street A cloud of harmless water vapour caused a major stir among the residents of Wilson Street, who were greeted by a dense white mist flowing down the road Monday morning. Some residents made a hasty retreat from the fog, while others called police and fire departments to report what they believed was some kind of chemical spill. Fortunately, this was not the case. The culprit was a combination of weather conditions and work taking place on the water treatment plant, located at the corner of Lakeshore Road East and Wilson Street. "The plant uses liquid oxygen to generate ozone and ozone is used to disinfect the water. We're commissioning the ozone system right now at the plant and some of the oxygen was released into the atmosphere," said Kiyoshi Oka, director of environmental services for Halton Region. "Oxygen is very cold and because it was mixing with warm air it produced a harmless water vapour fog." A lack of wind that day also meant that the fog did not disperse, but rather stayed in the vicinity of Wilson Street. "We apologize for any concern that may have been created because of that," said Oka. Thank you Acclaim Health Nurses! Thank you for being simply the best! Kind, inspirational, compassionate and wise.
