Robinson Invitational boys' baseball tournament last weekend in Burlington, defeating the Parkside Panthers 7-5 in extra innings of the championship game. the lead in the Richardson Division standings. Aquinas sat second as of yesterday (Tuesday) with a 3-2 record, while the White Oaks Wildcats and Iroquois Ridge were 2-1-1. Boys' soccer Three Oakville teams boasted undefeated records entering this week's senior boys' soccer action. Abbey Park and Trinity were both 3-0-1, trailing only Christ the King (4-0-1) in the AAAA division. Blakelock, meanwhile, led the AAA division with a 3-0-1 record. Aquinas (3-1-0) trailed Milton (3-0-1) in AA play, but has a chance to gain on the Mustangs this afternoon when the teams meet in Milton. Junior boys' competition saw Trinity (4-0) leading the Richardson Division, with Loyola (4-1) and White Oaks (3-1-1) on the Titans' tails. Rugby Oakville Trafalgar has had its way in senior girls' and junior boys' rugby. Senior boys' rugby, however, has been much more competitive. The girls won their first three games by a combined score of 88-0 to take the lead in the Division 1 standings. The Red Devils pounded their closest competitor, the 2-1 Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 390 earlier this season. OT's junior boys edged Notre Dame 10-7 in a battle of undefeated teams Friday, improving to 4-0 and strengthening their hold on first place in Division 1. Loyola, Abbey Park and Blakelock entered the week with 1-2 records. In senior boys' action, as of yesterday, OT and Abbey Park were tied for first in Division 1, both with 3-0-1 records. Blakelock was second at 1-0-2, with both those ties coming against the front-running Red Devils and Eagles. Slow pitch Abbey Park was the only undefeated team in girls' slow pitch, as of yesterday, though it hasn't been easy. The Eagles won three one-run games to start the year, edging Robert Bateman, M.M. Robinson and Loyola. They were scheduled to be in action again yesterday. Loyola, the only other local team in slow pitch, lost its first two games of the year. HIGH SCHOOLSPORTS Rob Birtles cranked a three-run homer in the clinching game, while Vincent Cambruzzi and Matt McLaughlin provided strong pitching for the Titans. The contest required only one extra inning to decide. The victory avenged a 2-0 loss to the Panthers in pool play. Trinity downed Iroquois Ridge 7-1 in its other preliminary-round contest, then doubled the Assumption Crusaders 6-3 in the semifinal. The Loyola Hawks and Robinson Rams rounded out the six-team field at the event. Trinity and Loyola began this week's regular-season action tied with the Robert Bateman Wild atop the Volpe Division, all sporting 2-0-1 records. Softball In girls' softball, the T.A. Blakelock Tigers continue to dominate the Halton scene. Blakelock carried a 4-0 record into Monday's game with Acton, having outscored its opponents 45-5. The Tigers won the regional championship last year, pounding the Nelson Lords 17-0 in the final. Iroquois Ridge had also not tasted defeat as of Monday. The Trailblazers won their first two games of the year, pounding Acton 17-1 and Milton 18-1, before tying the Volpe Division-leading Christ the King Jaguars 3-3 Thursday. Girls' soccer Local teams lead the AA and AAA divisions of Halton senior girls' soccer. Loyola sat atop the AAA division with a 3-0 mark, going into Monday's contest against the Bishop Reding Royals. The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders handed the Lester B. Pearson Patriots their first loss of the year, 1-0 Monday in Burlington, to vault past Pearson into top spot of the AA grouping. Christ the King was first in AAAA play as of Monday, owning a 3-0-2 mark. The Oakville Trafalgar Red Devils (3-1-1) and Holy Trinity (3-0-1) were within striking distance, however. In junior girls' competition, the Abbey Park Eagles have won four of their first five games to take Upper Oakville Shopping Centre Presents, Welsh, Wren win awards Not a whole lot went right for the Oakville Blades at last week's Royal Bank Cup. But at least they can say they beat the eventual national champion. The Humboldt Broncos won the Canadian junior A hockey championship, blanking the Camrose Kodiaks 1-0 Sunday in front of 2,477 spectators at Cornwall's Ed Lumley Arena. Oakville's lone win in the tournament came against Humboldt, a 7-6 triumph Wednesday. The Blades went 1-3 in the round-robin and did not qualify for the playoff round. Oakville's Jeremy Welsh was named the top forward of the tournament, notching three goals and three assists in four games. Five of those six points came in the win over the Broncos. Goaltender Oliver Wren was the Blades' RBC Cup Legacy Scholarship recipient, as one graduating 20-year-old player from each of the five participating teams received a $500 scholarship.
