Going up the stairs or walking up a hill left me gasping for air and my heart racing. When I explained my symptoms to my family doctor, he got me into OTMH that afternoon for an echocardiogram. The echocardiogram used sound waves to create a moving and more detailed image of my heart than x-rays can. And it revealed a terrible surprise ... ... A massive tumour the size of a golf ball sitting in my heart! ... Three days later I underwent open-heart surgery to remove the tumour. I'm convinced that the echocardiogram is the only reason why I'm here today, alive and well. After all, it was the only test that picked up the tumour! As you can imagine, I'm grateful that this piece of sophisticated equipment was available in my community when I needed it. I know how vital it is to have state-of-the-art medical equipment available in the local community. It saved my life! Funds raised from this year's OTMH Classic will be used to purchase vital medical equipment for the hospital, including the Cardiology Department, an area experiencing tremendous growth. Legion's Poppy Sales Benefit OTMH The Oakville Legion, Branch 114, recently made two donations to Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital ­ a $20,000 cheque towards the purchase of a Prism machine for renal dialysis and a $10,000 cheque towards orthopeadic surgery.
