Lyons Lane condos to be environmentally elegant By David Lea OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF Officials from Creekbank Properties are calling plans for new condominiums in the Lyons Lane area an exercise in environmentally friendly elegance. The developer unveiled its proposal during a Wednesday night Town Hall meeting that was only attended by the developers themselves and The Oakville Beaver. The new development is being proposed for land north of the intersection at Lyons Lane and Cross Avenue and would replace the abandoned and boarded up seniors centre, located at 599 Lyons Lane. The developer is proposing 420 residential condominium apartment units in two high-rise buildings, which would be 20 storeys and 24 storeys in height. The site would also feature 630 automobile parking spaces in an above and below ground parking structure. Creekbank Properties President Todd Cullen said a combination of scenic beauty and the convenience future residents will find in the location drew his company to the area. "It has an intimate relationship with the 16 Mile Creek, it adds a beautiful backdrop feature to the location. There's also the obvious relationship with the existing commercial (locations), as well as multi-transit opportunities, most importantly the GO station, which is within an easy five minute walk, and there is good access to the major transit corridors, those being the service road the highway and beyond," said Cullen. "It sets up perfectly for those who want to have the best of a number of different worlds be it mass transit, transit corridors, commercial (locations), nature and amenities." Architect Clifford Korman noted that the condominium design and location means there will be no shad- owing effect on existing residential areas. He also pointed out that the structure would be built with the very latest in environmentally friendly building technologies. "All of us are LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) accredited professionals," said Korman. "We never use CFC refrigeration. All systems are with chilled water. We optimize our energy per- formance, we have indoor air quality." While the price tag for a unit in one of these future buildings has yet to be set, Korman noted the design calls for larger units at the top and smaller units at the bottom with prices likely to range from starter to luxurious. This proposal is scheduled to come before the Town's Planning and Development Council on Monday, June 23.
