Today and for the next 17 days, Smith will continue to ride her bike-- just not in her basement. Smith, along with 49 other cyclists, is taking part in a coast-to-coast bike ride known as the Sears National Kids Cancer Ride challenge. The team of 50 cyclists will ride their bikes to increase awareness and donations for childhood Pre-Summer Savings PORTABLE VACUUMS HUGE INVENTORY!!! When the brand names come from overseas! If everything follows schedule, they should be in Edmonton, Alberta today. "Preparations for the ride have kept me busy," said Smith. "Imagine your busiest days and then imagine having that day for five months straight," she laughed. According to Smith preparation had to start early because every cyclist must be fit "all over," before the ride. She said that she had to bike in her basement (because of bad weather), run, do yoga as well as strength training exercises to get ready for the ride, which will take her through more than 200 cities across the country. They are cycling in three groups: fast--25 km per hour, faster--28 km per hour and fastest--31 km per hour. Smith will be cycling at 31 km per hour. Cyclists will bike a relay- style ride -- 4,560 km each -- to cover the 7,600 km distance. Along the way, they will make stops at designated areas near local Sears stores where stage riders will join the national cyclists for a distance of 25200 km. They will be in Oakville on June 13. The cyclists will come from McMaster, make a rest stop at Oakville Place, continue to Sherway Gardens and then cycle from there to Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children. "I've arranged to hook up a trailer bike in Oakville and I'll be taking my son with me to Sick Kids hospital in Toronto," she added. Smith, who is the single mother of six-year-old Ethan, has arranged to leave her son with family and friends, as well as the wife of one the cyclists during the ride.
