The award was presented earlier this month at AMCTO's 70th annual meeting in Niagara Falls. AMCTO is the largest voluntary professional association in the municipal field in Ontario and the leading professional development organization for municipal administrative staff. AMCTO presents the Prestige Award annually to a member in recognition of a career of outstanding commitment to the ideals of the association and exceptional contributions to the association and the municipal profession. Throughout her 29-year municipal career, Best has earned a reputation for introducing innovative methods of service delivery to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the municipality, while increasing the level of service to the public. Her noteworthy achievements have included the introduction of e-document technology for the circulation of public information and serving as a member of the restructuring team for the amalgamation of the City of Toronto. Best has also supported her staff through mentoring and training. In receiving the award, it was noted that Best's "professional knowledge is not only sought out by her staff, but by staff in other departments, her peers in the municipality and in other municipalities, and by other senior levels of management. She is well-respected for such knowledge and for her communication skills." Best was caught off guard when her name was announced as the 2008 honoree. She expressed in her typically modest style that she was "truly humbled to be named along with her colleagues and mentors who had previously won the Prestige Award." "The Prestige Award is a fitting tribute to Cathie Best's dedication, leadership and loyalty to her municipality, her community and to her profession," said Mayor Rob Burton. Best is an active member of AMCTO and served as the association's president in 1997-1998. Best is also actively involved in her community, participating in myriad fundraising events for causes such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, and breast cancer research. She has also participated in the Rotary International program and in the late 1990s, served as the vice-president for Volunteer Etobicoke. · ROHDE · MEPHISTO · DANIEL HECHTER PARIS · BIRKENSTOCK · RIEKER · ARA · ROHDE · MEPHISTO
