MIST hits a homerun for the Y The Town of Oakville experienced a double dose of victory on Thursday with a big win in the eleventh annual Mayor's Invitational Softball Tournament (MIST), which was successful in raising $530,000 for the YMCA of Oakville and its Peter Gilgan Family Y membership facility. The charity softball tournament, hosted by Mattamy Homes, attracted considerable attention this year with 32 teams fielding 450 players for the event. The competition was stiff with employees from Mattamy, other building trades, the Halton Region and the Town of Oakville all coming together to battle it out for a good cause. In the end, however, there could be only one victor with the Town of Oakville clenching that singular honour in a spectacular last inning win. "It was two out in the bottom of the last frame and they had a four run rally," said Oakville Mayor Rob Burton. "It doesn't get more exciting than that." Burton also noted that the funds for the YMCA, which were raised through corporate sponsorships, donations of goods and services and team entry fees, are much needed and well used. The Oakville Y is a charitable association open to everyone and is dedicated to providing life-long opportunities for health enhancement and personal growth. Some of the funds gathered through MIST will provide fee assistance to children and families in need for YMCA of Oakville programs and services like Summer Camp, Child Care and Facility membership. · CARPET · ORIENTAL RUGS · VINYL · HARDWOOD · CERAMICS · CARPET · · ORIENTAL RUGS · VINYL · HARDWOOD · CERAMICS · CARPET · ORIENTAL RUGS · VINYL · HARDWOOD · CERAMICS · AREAraRUG a nce Cle In-stock only! "It takes a winning partnership to put together a day like MIST and that's the kind of team we have," said Bruce Ireland, CEO of the YMCA. "Mattamy and the Town of Oakville have been behind the YMCA every step of the way and understand our mission to bring programs and services to all." Besides the volunteers on the field, more than 150 volunteers from the YMCA, the Oakville Girls' Softball Association and Mattamy provided back-up support making sure things ran smoothly at the games on eight diamonds in four Oakville parks. The semi-finals and the championship game were decided in Trafalgar Park where it all came down to Homes Publishing Group (last year's winner) and the Town of Oakville. "Oakville's always fielded a strong team, but this year we fielded a winning team," said Burton. 60 % HEAVY BERBER $3 e at Compar $1.99/sq. ft.
