The group embarked on a performance and cultural tour of the Czech Republic and Austria on July 9, with 36 musicians aged 13 through 20, conductor Janez Govednik and eight chaperones. The HYSO performed for audiences in St. Nicholas Church at the Old Town Square in Prague, built in 1735, Community Centres in Pulkau and Neumarkt, Austria and at the International Youth and Music Festival in Vienna at the Austria Centre. In addition to rehearsals and performance concerts, the musicians experienced several cultural outings.These included walking tours of Prague,Vienna and Salzburg, a boat cruise on the Danube River, a guided tour of The Sound of Music filming venues, and an underground tour of the salt mines just out side of Salzburg.This was the HYSO's first international trip in its 32-year history.The HYSO continues to attract talented young musicians from Burlington, Georgetown, Oakville, Milton, Mississauga, Toronto and neighbouring communities.
