On Sunday, at Pilgrim's Park, 1551 Pilgrim's Park, join the Oakville Unit to celebrate its first Paws for Hope trail walk-a-thon, where dogs and their owners will hit the trails to raise funds for people living with cancer. Registration and a special family warm-up start at 9:30 a.m., while participants will lace (or leash) up for a leisurely walk through the Glen Abbey trail system. The official walk starts at 10 a.m. Joining the Oakville Unit to lead the Paws for Hope warm-up is Dealing with Dogs Ltd., a progressive obedience school offering gentle, fun, and dog-friendly training techniques for all puppies. Since 1991, this group of dedicated dog professionals has worked with owners to achieve the best possible relationships with their pets. "We're really looking forward to having Lisa Kruitwagen from Dealing with Dogs on board to lead us in a warm-up," said Lisa Moffatt, fundraising coordinator of the Oakville Unit. "Her warm-up will be something everyone in the family can enjoy!" In addition, the first 100 participants raising a minimum of $25 in pledges will receive the Paws for Hope "doggie gag" as a token of apprecia- tion. Oakville's own Bark & Fitz will provide healthy treats for the trails and outfit owners with cleanup bags, while Life Source Water will supply participants with water throughout the walk. Also joining in the fun with a dog first aid station at the event is Dr. Jennifer LeBel and the team at the Mississauga Oakville Emergency Veterinary Hospital. "We're so happy to have the support of our generous local sponsors and the families in the community that plan on coming out for the walk. Paws for Hope should be a great event," said Moffatt. Funds raised from the event will continue to help the Canadian Cancer Society: · Fund research on all types of cancer. · Offer comprehensive and credible information on cancer, risk reduction and treatment. · Provide support for people living with cancer, family members and their friends.
