Oakville opened its pre-season schedule last weekend with a pair of wins on home ice, then posted a victory in Vaughan Monday. The Blades had only three veteran players in their lineup Friday against the St. Michael's Buzzers, resting players who had Team Canada Jr. A tryouts the following day, but still skated to a 6-4 triumph at Joshua's Creek Arenas. Sunday, the Blades doubled the Kingston Voyageurs 6-3. Monday, Oakville routed the Vipers 7-1. Blades head coach and general manager Carlo Coccimiglio was quick to highlight the play of youngsters Braden Corbeth, Brandon Alderson and Mark Bennett. He was also pleased with what he saw from newcomers Ryan Murphy, Mike Ingoldsby, Chris Rocca and goaltender Ian O'Brien, as well as returning blueliner Taylor Farris. The Blades will hold their annual golf tournament this week, then travel to Vermont next week for a team bonding trip and three exhibition games. The Provincial Junior A Hockey League season opens next Friday (Sept. 5).
