The 3.5litre V6 with a four-speed automatic does 11.4L/100 km (25 mpg) city and 7.9L/100 km (36 mpg) highway. Meanwhile, the 5.7L V8 gets 13.1L/100 km (22 mpg) city and 8.6L/100 km (33 mpg) highway an the manual does 13.8 L/100 km (20 mpg) and 8.6L/100km (33 mpg). For the 6.1L V8, numbers are 16.3L/100 km (17 mpg) city and 10.6L/100 km (27 mpg) highway and with the manual 15.4L/100 km (18 mpg) city and 9.5L/100 km (30 mpg) highway. The base SE comes well equipped with manual tilt/telescopic steering column, power foldaway mirrors and windows, air conditioning, speed control, fourwheel disc brakes, power eight-way drivers seat, 17-inch aluminum wheels, five-link Touring suspension, tire pressure monitoring and keyless/illuminated entry. Move up to the SXT and you get 18-inch aluminum wheels, traction control, ABS brakes with brake assist, fog lamps, leather wrapped steering wheel/shift knob and sun visors with illuminated vanity mirrors. The R/T comes standard with the five-speed automatic transmission. For $2,000, you can add the six-speed manual with pistol grip shifter and the Trak Pak (hill start assist, anti-spin differential rear axle, bright pedals and performance steering with variable displacement). Meanwhile the SRT8 also has the manual transmission option for $2,000 and comes with 20-inch forged aluminum wheels, performance hood with functional air inlet ducts and a host of other features including a leather interior package, performance pages display (showing 0-96 km/h times, braking distance etc.) and power high performance disc brakes with Brembo calipers and a high performance suspension. The gas crisis is bound to take some of the wind out of Challenger sales and its introduction couldn't have come at a worse time, but there's no denying this is one fun car. For those like yours truly who have been pining for a Challenger of years gone by but can't afford the inflated price tag, here's your chance. For my money, the R/T model is the way to go, but many enthusiasts won't settle for anything but the biggest and best-- the 425 hp SRT8. The old and the new. The 2009 Challenger bears more than a striking resemblance to its 1970s namesake. However, the updated version is truly a modern day muscle car that has power to spare, yet handles like a sport sedan.
