To celebrate the success of Oakville's hometown hero, Mayor Rob Burton and local councillors will host a public reception for van Koeverden at Town Hall located at 1225 Trafalgar Rd. It will begin at 6 p.m. Van Koeverden brought home a silver medal in the K-1 500 metre kayak finals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. A ceremonial street name unveiling and meet and greet will conclude the event. As part of the celebration, Burton would also like to recognize Oakville athletes or residents who took an active role in the 2008 Beijing Olympics -- whether as a competitor, volunteer, supportive friend or cheerleader.
