Members of the public are invited to attend a free seminar entitled Hypertension and Kidney Disease on Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. at Milton District Hospital Classroom. Dr. Daniel Sapir, a nephrologist at Halton Healthcare Services will be presenting. Participants will learn the causes and consequences of hypertension and who is at risk for developing it, the prevention and control through healthy lifestyle choices and the medical treatments available. Hypertension is an insidious disease presenting few symptoms, if any, but causing serious complications. That is why it has been nicknamed the silent killer. Hypertension affects one in five Canadians and almost half of hypertension sufferers do not know they are affected. There are a number of risk factors that can increase your risk of developing hypertension. About half of people over the age of 65 have high blood pressure. The seminar is free.
