Flynn rose at the Ontario Legislature on Tuesday to announce the creation of a petition calling for the relocation or establishment of a second NHL team for the Hamilton and Greater Toronto Area. Far from creating a team to replace the Leafs, Flynn noted the reasons for creating a new hockey team are purely economic. "The Hamilton and Greater Toronto Area, no doubt, has the best and biggest market in the entire world for hockey," he said. "Currently the Toronto Maple Leafs have the highest ticket revenue per games amongst all teams in the NHL." Flynn said the demand for hockey in the Hamilton/GTA area is so high some local fans have not been able to access tickets or afford tickets. A second hockey team, he said, would answer this demand and contribute greatly to the economy and the province. "We'd anticipate revenue from approximately another 40 plus home games throughout the season," said Flynn. "Some reports in the newspaper have stated that the value of a second NHL club would range between $400 million and $600 million and just think of the rivalry when the two Toronto teams played each other."
